Top Organizational Tips To Consider

Storing items in a storage unit is more than just stacking boxes and other items haphazardly. Do you want your items protected? Will you want to know what is inside each box? How often will you be accessing the items you’re storing? These are all things you need to consider, and the following organizational tips will get you on your way.

When it comes to boxes, whether using cardboard or plastic, label everything. It's also a good idea to label multiple sides of the boxes to make it easier later if you’re looking for something. Also, ensure that you use the same size boxes or as similar a size as possible for stability when stacking. The type of box being used needs to be sturdy enough to accept the weight being stacked on top of it.

There are three main things to consider when stacking boxes: place the heaviest box at the bottom, don’t stack too high, and leave isles between stacks for ease of access. From here, consider keeping items you might access frequently towards the front of the unit.

Lastly, let “dead space” be your friend. Items like refrigerators or stoves are great places to store additional boxes and items. Utilize all of the space you have in the best way you can. The best way to do this is to plan ahead; have a game plan and methodically organize your items in the storage unit.
